How do you keep a porta potty from freezing?
We keep a porta potty from freezing by charging the tank with salt brine instead of plain blue water, at delivery and at every weekly service. The brine lowers the freezing point of the tank liquid. Renters help by keeping the door shut and the unit in sun.
- Place the unit on the south or east side of a building, in sun and out of the north wind.
- Keep snow cleared from the door and a path to it.
- Do not pour hot water in the tank; it refreezes harder.
- Call if the seat or tank freezes; we treat it on the next route.
Do hand-washing stations work in winter?
Standard hand-washing stations freeze below 32°F because they hold fresh water. For winter job sites, rent a heated station or place the station inside a heated entry. Hand sanitizer in each toilet works in any weather.
